Spiral Communications operates out of a historic building in downtown Nebraska City that had seen its share of wear over the years. Mortar joints were breaking down, the exterior had accumulated decades of buildup, and portions of the storefront had deteriorated. The goal wasn’t to change the look of the building — it was to preserve it and strengthen what was already there.
We began with a full exterior cleaning to remove dirt and residue that had settled into the brick over time. Once the surface was clean, we moved into tuckpointing the structure inside and out. Deteriorated mortar was carefully removed and replaced, restoring both the appearance and structural stability of the walls.
The lower portion of the front storefront required a rebuild. We installed new brick that matched the original as closely as possible and incorporated stone quoins along the sides to maintain the building’s historic character. Scaffolding and lift equipment allowed us to work safely and reach upper sections without cutting corners.
In the end, the building kept its original identity, just stronger and ready for the years ahead. Projects like this are about respecting the structure while making sure it holds up long term.
