Masonry Work

Masonry isn’t just about how it looks when it’s finished — it’s about how it holds up years later. At Markuson Construction Inc., we handle everything from new brick and block construction to detailed repairs and restoration. When brick starts to fail, mortar joints break down, or walls begin to shift, we take the time to address the underlying cause, not just the surface damage.

Our team works with brick, block, natural stone, and traditional stucco, carefully matching materials and blending mortar so repairs tie in naturally with the original structure. Many of the projects we work on involve older homes and historic buildings, where careful material matching and traditional repair methods are essential. We provide masonry restoration, brick repair, and tuckpointing services throughout Omaha, Nebraska, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and surrounding communities.

With six generations in the masonry trade, we approach every project with the same goal — work that holds up.

Brick Work

From new brick walls to repairs on aging structures, we lay and restore brick with care. We match existing materials when possible and rebuild damaged areas so they blend naturally with the rest of the structure.

Block Work

Concrete block foundations, walls, and structural elements need to be straight, level, and properly reinforced. We build and repair block structures that are solid and built for long-term use.

Stone Work

Natural and manufactured stone adds character, but it has to be installed correctly to hold up. We handle stone veneers, structural stone, and detailed repairs with a focus on stability and clean finish work.

Traditional Stucco

Stucco protects and finishes exterior surfaces when applied properly. We repair cracked or failing sections and install new stucco systems that are applied evenly and built to withstand local weather.

Masonry Restoration

When mortar joints begin to fail or brick starts to deteriorate, early repair prevents bigger problems. We restore aging masonry carefully, keeping the original look intact while strengthening the structure.

Chimney/Fireplace Repair

Chimneys take constant exposure from weather and heat. We repair cracked crowns, failing mortar, loose brick, and structural damage to keep them safe and functioning properly.

Tuckpointing

When mortar joints crumble or separate, water finds its way in. We remove deteriorated mortar and replace it with properly matched material to protect the wall and restore its appearance.

Retaining Walls

Retaining walls must manage soil pressure and drainage correctly. We build and repair walls that are reinforced, level, and designed to hold up without leaning or shifting.

Built for Midwest Conditions

Freeze-thaw cycles, heavy rain, and shifting soil can take a toll on masonry. Brick, mortar, and concrete expand and contract with temperature changes, and over time that movement can lead to cracks, loose joints, and structural wear.

When planning repairs or new construction, we take Midwest conditions into account, using the right materials and installation methods so the finished work continues to perform through changing seasons.

The goal is simple — masonry work that holds up year after year.
