This project took place in the Lincoln Fairview Historic District in Council Bluffs, where preserving original character was just as important as strengthening the structure. The home, originally built in 1897, required careful stonework restoration to maintain its historic appearance while addressing areas that had deteriorated over time.
The work began with removal of a failing concrete retaining wall that no longer fit the character of the property. In its place, we constructed a custom quartzite stone wall using salvaged stone sourced from demolished homes. This approach allowed us to maintain a period-appropriate look while improving long-term durability and structural support.
To complete the restoration, we installed custom quartzite step slabs at the main entry and finished the stonework with beaded joints to match the home’s historic detailing. Every step was handled with preservation in mind, ensuring the updates blended naturally with the original structure while reinforcing it for years ahead.
